Unlimited Possibilities Overcoming Poverty Ministry, Inc. (UPOP Ministry) is a model program for graduating high school, economically disadvantaged girls who are enrolled in college or a trade school.  This program is a clear path to supporting girls from a poverty background in need of financial assistance through the first semester of college.  Unfortunately many college bound girls  face enormous challenges in pursuing a college education.  For instance they may be confronted with obstacles such as inadequate financial resources, a lack of parental support and encouragement, (many of our girls are first in their families to attend college) and a total misunderstanding how to survive on a college campus.  Once girls are selected for financial support UPOP Ministry's Board members provide mentoring/intervention, career development, community involvement and culture appreciation for at least 3 sessions during the girls' first semester.

EVIDENCE OF A GIRL'S SUCCESS:

Board members investing time with each college student selected makes a difference in their lives and facilitates success in college.

Graduation Statistics: Since 2008, 100% of selected girls were accepted to a college or trade school. 95% of 40 young women graduated from college and are gainfully employed.  Financial assistance totaling over $50,000 has supported these college students and continuing to support others.

SUCCESS MONITORED BY:

Each student is required to submit a grade report from their college registrar to UPOP Ministry at the end of their first semester.  Students agree to attend our annual "Women Touching the World" Awards Banquet where they will read their essays on the topic "My Future Legacy."  Also, at the event, first semester grades are shared with all in attendance.
